The book talks about five decades of design, collaboration, and cultural impact of one of the most iconic shoe brands of all time.
Published to accompany the autumn 2024 exhibition at the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, this volume explores the history of Nike design. The catalog of the exhibition follows the evolution of the company's design culture, tracing milestones, iconic objects, and inspirations throughout its 50-year legacy. It also highlights Nike's scientific research, which always begins with a study of the moving body, ultimately merging technology, functionality, and aesthetics.
The book presents a plethora of materials never-before-seen, including rarity and unique pieces from the company's early days in the 1960s, original design sketches and prototypes of iconic models of sneakers, historical documents and films, as well as the results of collaborations with creative figures such as Virgil Abloh and Marc Newson.
Renowned design historians contribute essays on various topics, including the use of graphics, collaborative relationships with athletes and fashion designers, advanced R&D, and more. Additionally, the book includes interview extracts from over 50 people who have played a key role in Nike history.
