A black and white photographic journey through the work of Mexican engineer and architect Luis Barragán (1902–1988), awarded the Pritzker Prize in 1980. Barragán stood out for his approach that merged native culture with elegant modernist design. His influence lingers on in many of Mexico’s contemporary architects.
Although black and white photographs may seem like a limitation, the book evokes Barragán’s emblematic colors in an abstract way through its cover and binding. It also includes a text by the architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, who highlights the relevance of the spatial aspect in Barragán’s work, above his remarkable use of color.
