This facsimile reproduction presents the only known notebook by the artist Anni Albers, providing insight into her working method.

Between 1970 and 1980, Albers filled this graph paper notebook with drawings and studies documenting her creative process. It contains detailed diagrams of her graphic work, as well as studies for her later knot drawings. The notebook shows Albers's development as a draftswoman, describing how she constructed complex patterns through detailed analysis, piece by piece and line by line, in a series of geometric compositions.

An epilogue written by Brenda Danilowitz, curatorial director of The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, contextualizes the notebook and analyzes the role of these studies in the evolution of her work.
