OUR USED CLOTHING DONATION PROGRAMME

We run a second-hand clothing collection scheme which enables our customers to hand in items they no longer use. The aim of the programme is to encourage the effective use of the collected clothing, prioritising its reuse and, where this is not possible, its recycling.

Clothing, footwear and accessories of any brand and in any condition may be donated. We send the products to local organisations, which sort them according to their condition and quality.

Organisations manage the garments collected by prioritising options that extend their useful life, whether by distributing them to people in vulnerable situations or by reselling them to fund social projects, for example. Where reuse is not possible, organisations shall channel them into other appropriate management channels.

How can you make your donation?

We have clothes collection containers in our stores where you can deposit the package with the clothes you wish to donate. You can check the stores that offer this service in our Store Finder. Remember that your donation must be placed inside a properly sealed package.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The garments collected will be sorted before being reused or recycled. All garments which are 100% cotton, wool or polyester can be recycled into new fabrics. The rest of the clothing will be turned into materials for the construction and automotive sectors. Garments that cannot be reused or recycled for reasons of hygiene, health and safety, or quality of the materials undergo a rigorous waste management procedure.

Zara will be in charge of collecting and delivering the garments to the sorting centres run by the organisations we work with, where they are classified to ensure that each item gets sent to the best possible destination. Depending on each organisation's capabilities, the garments may be:

—Donated to people in need

— Marketed through the charitable channels used by the non-profit organisations to finance their social projects.

— Reused and transformed into other textile products such as cloths.

— Recycled into new fibres and materials for the construction and automotive sectors (seat filling, cushions, etc.).

Garments that cannot be reused or recycled for reasons of hygiene, health and safety or quality of the materials undergo a rigorous waste management procedure.
