OUR USED CLOTHING DONATION PROGRAM

We have a used clothing collection program that allows our customers to donate items they no longer use. The goal of the program is to ensure that the collected clothing is put to good use, prioritizing reuse and, when that is not possible, recycling.

Clothing, footwear, and accessories from any brand and in any condition can be donated. We give the items to local organizations that sort them according to their condition and quality.

Organizations manage the collected clothing by prioritizing options that extend its useful life, such as distributing clothing to people in vulnerable situations or reselling it to fund social projects. When reuse is not possible, the organizations will direct them to other appropriate management channels.

How can you make your donation?

We have clothing collection containers in our stores where you can leave the package with the garments you want to donate. You can find stores that feature this service in our Store Locator. Remember that your donation should be in a well sealed package.

Yes. The collected clothing is sorted prior to being reused or recycled. Items of clothing that are 100% cotton, wool, or polyester can be recycled into new fabric. The remaining garments will be converted into construction or automotive materials. Items that cannot be reused or recycled because of health or safety reasons or due to the quality of their materials are subjected to a rigorous waste management process.

At Zara, we handle the collection and transport of clothing to the sorting centers of the organizations we collaborate with where they are sorted to allocate each item to the most suitable purpose. Depending on the capacity of each organization, the items may be:

— Donated to people in need.

— Sold through the charity channels of the non-profit organizations in order to finance their social projects.

— Reused and transformed into other textile products such as cloths or rags.

— Recycled into new materials and fibers destined for the construction and automotive sectors (filling for seats, cushions, etc.).

Items of clothing that cannot be reused or recycled because of health and safety reasons or due to the quality of their materials are subjected to a strict waste management process.
